Dura-SOD Maintenance
Proper maintenance is critical to keeping any lawn looking its best.

MOWING
New sod should be mowed as soon as needed, usually 7 - 10 days after installation or before blades exceed 3". Use a sharp mower blade and never remove more than 1/3 of the plant leaf at one mowing.

FERTILIZING
Fertilize in 4 - 6 weeks from the time of installation. Choose products with 35 - 50% of the nitrogen from slow-release forms. Apply recommended rates from packaging.
Fertilizing 3 - 4 times a year will supply 2 - 4 lbs of nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. annually.

WATERING

The first week of watering is critical. Newly installed sod should not be allowed to dry out:

    • Water for 2 - 3 hours of sprinkling every 2 - 3 days (to accumulate 1 inch of water)
    • Thereafter, maintain a moist unsaturated soil condition; watering as necessary.
    • Once the sod knits to the soil (~1 - 3 weeks), change watering frequency to achieve a moist and thorough watering, allowing for natural rainfall and cool or hot weather.
WARNING: Continued over-saturation is harmful and can cause root rot, surface damage, and is wasteful.
